On the Divine Indwelling

The God who I have come to know and experience seems more interested in our unlimited potential then our faults or shortcomings. This same God does not keep record of our rights and wrongs, nor those he favor one individual over another. Learning to trust in this God, who holds us in the palm of his hand, desires only one thing - our recognition that he loves each one of us UNCONDITIONALLY. At the same time he keeps reminding me that there is nothing anyone can do to earn his love. What a gift! So how can we learn again, what we already knew from the moment we were born?

One of the most powerful realizations we can hope to grasp is - God resides within each human being! This is what theologians have long understood as the Divine Indwelling. Each one of us carries within a holy spark, or particle, of the Divine. It is part of our DNA. Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. As Christian scripture confirms: “For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present , nor the future, neither the world above not the world below – there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God”.

Becoming increasingly conscious or aware of our Creator’s most intimate connection will finally bring us a life to be lived in full as promised by Jesus. To help us to gain a greater insight of that incredible reality, readers my wish to reflect on the following scripture passages:

A. By Christ: Through faith

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family* in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14-19

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27

B. Spirit: Every believer

But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through* his Spirit that dwells in you.

Romans 8:9-11

Spirit: Body, a temple of God

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?* 1 Corinthians 3:16

Dr. Wayne Dyer, in his book, Your Sacred Self, describes [Divine Indwelling] in this way:

To be born again is to let the past go, and look without condemnation upon the present. . . .You are but asked to let the future go, and place it in God's Hands. And you will see by your experience that you have laid the past and present in His Hands as well, because the past will punish you no more, and future dread will now be meaningless. The Course in Miracles

You do not need a teacher to teach you all of the elements of heightened awareness. You do not need a teacher to tell you how to erase your past and the limitations that you have come to believe in. What you need is a teacher to teach you that you have immeasurable power within you. This is what I wish to do. I hope to convince you of the reality of the existence of your limitless inner power.

Finally, readers ,may further benefit by reflecting on the following words from Mariane Williamson in her book A Return to Love (1992) and later adopted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Speech.

Powerful Beyond Measure

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be - brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?"

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so small that others won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in us, it's in everyone.

As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
